Graduate Student Organization

The Chemical Engineering Graduate Student Organization (GSO) at WVU has 32 members. The purpose of the organization is to improve the interactions between the graduate students and the department faculty & staff. Monthly luncheons are organized so that students may have the opportunity to get to know individual faculty better. Journal Club Seminars are organized so that students may present a research or a technical topic in front of other students & the faculty and receive constructive comments on their presentation style. Departmental picnics and other events such as Ice Skating, a Halloween Party, etc. also take place. The students achieving certain milestones like thesis defense, dissertation proposal, etc. are acknowledged at the beginning of every semester.

Fund-raisers

Generally the funding for GSO comes from year dues and from other sources like the following:

• Pizza sales within the College of Engineering
  
• Contributions from industrial sponsors
  
• Donations from alumni
